I believe this article is different than the other college articles we have looked at due to the amount of passion in the speech
Mack Rhine

I don't even think this was a speech. It looked more likely some kind of black lash towards another article
Megan Moxley

I agree with Mack. This article was obviously a response to a person or another article and i think we should have seen both sides to this argument.
Mae Sandhu

I think you are right. But I also don't think its even important that there was another article. The author lists what she wants to tell us and then explains. Other than that, I do agree that it is a response to someone else.

I agree although the other articles did have some amount of passion in them.
Brandon Alexander

I meant article, but I believe this article showed more passion in a shorter time than the others
Savanna Guertin
11/10/2013 02:01:51 am
Brandon, I agree with you. I feel the author really has to show a lot of passion because she is trying to persuade the reader how good community colleges are. I believe in anything we do that have us persuading others, it requires passion.
Mack Rhine

I kinda wish that we read the article that she was responding against first. It seems a little wrong in the sense that we read an article responding to another, but we don't read the original article.
Joseph DiGeronimo
11/9/2013 11:12:52 am
Me too! Because I did not read the other article it was quite confusing to understand this one.
Brandon Alexander
11/9/2013 11:19:49 am
That is true, if we read the original first it would have been better as we would know what she was responding to
Darby McMahon

I agree with Mack. I would have understood the article more if we got to read the first article
Madi faulk
11/9/2013 11:53:17 am
I definitely agree if we read the other one it would make a lot more since than just reading this one that replies to another article.

I agree completely with Mack; I found the article compelling yet seemed to not find closure within the article as the first article was not available

On another note! Relating to our literary terms, the prior essay could be thought of as the "allusion" , a reference we were expected to know.
Savanna Guertin

I do agree with you Mack that read the article the author was responding to would be nice, we can still, in a way, piece together what she is responding to.

What I liked about this article is that it was not about the Liberal Arts it was something new about Community College
Gabriel Campos

I also agree with Ian, It's something new
Isaiah

I agree this was interesting about community college
Madi Faulk

I agree I liked how it talked about something new community college not just liberal arts degrees.
Megan Moxley
11/10/2013 03:02:12 am
I agree that this article is something new. Does this article have anything to do with Liberal Arts degrees or are there any connections to be made.
Joseph DiGeronimo

I agree, it is something new and I liked that.

I found this article very coherent, well spoken, and entirely acceptable for a community college student considering it wad chosen by the new York times, which may be the indication of the real reward of community college schooling.

This article gave me a new perspective of community colleges
Alexis D
11/9/2013 04:47:51 pm
I agree with your observation because often times community colleges are looked down upon in comparison to 4 year colleges and their glamour.
Isaiah A
11/9/2013 04:50:10 pm
I agree. When I first heard about community college I thought of it as a downgrade from normal college.
Alexis D
11/9/2013 04:55:07 pm
Yes Isaiah! But as we saw in the article this is not always the case; now we find that the majority of the populous is making a rather large generalization that does not concern many of the community colleges on an educational scale.
Darby McMahon
11/9/2013 10:56:24 pm
I agree with both of you. I have always thought community colleges were a "downgrade" but after I read this article I have realized that it is more.
Megan Moxley
11/10/2013 03:05:12 am
I also thought that community college was a "down grade" compared to a standard 4 year college and i am guessing the author was respnding to the other person whos opinion was most likely that c.c. is a down grade.

It also gives me a new perceptive. Maybe going to a community college and staying home for a year or two more isn't stuff a bad thing. It's not that hard to get into a community college too.
Mae Sandhu
11/12/2013 12:53:18 pm
My new perspective was that community colleges are important for some people, just not for me. I found that I agreed in this article when it said that community colleges are like stepping stones for a four-year college. I honestly do not want people to think highly of community colleges, for the reason that I believe people should set their sights on something higher than community college.
Mae Sandhu

Also, even though people say that they cannot afford college, there are scholarships and student loans out there. These people just need to try.

One thing that confuses me about this article and I may misunderstanding the article, but the title says "Two Years Are Better Than Four", and then the author goes and says how a community college is great to start with and that sets you up for a four year college. The title seems to mean differently as if a community college is all you need for a successful life.
Megan Moxley
11/10/2013 02:57:22 am
This confused me too, but i think what the other means is that you take 2 year c.c. the another 4 years instead of 4 off the bat.
Jenna Hunter
11/10/2013 06:31:33 am
I think it just means that community colleges can some times be a better start. Instead of leaving home and being on your own with a big college, you can start small and work your way up. I do not think the author is implying that all you need is a community college education.
Jenna Hunter
11/10/2013 06:28:25 am
The article really shows that it is okay to go to a community college. And I agree with the article. College is where we are suppose to grow. Community college is the only way people can do that in today's world.
Jenna Hunter

I kind of felt that everything was in code. References were made that the previous generation would get but I could not. It took me a while to decode the beginning of the article but I got it.

I like how this article shows that people in the world can go to community college and it's almost as good as going to a normal college if u don't have a lot if money. I also like how this article shares that college is a place to experience life on your own and for you to grow. Community college to me is a better place to grow than a normal college because it does not cost as much and it is closer to home.
Nathaniel Nun3z
11/11/2013 01:56:31 pm
Madi, how would you know if a community college is the right choice?
Mae Sandhu
11/12/2013 12:47:15 pm
Yet you do not get the same learning experience in community college as you do in a four-year college. Also, I'm not really sure about this but I don't think that you can get your bachelor or masters degree in community college.
Nathaniel Nun3z

Overall I thought the main point of the article was to let the reader know that it is okay to start at a community college instead of applying straight to a major University and that a community college can be beneficial.
